Help! 1971 Corvette (basic 350 engine) Valve Covers

Hello everyone,

I am in need to view what a stock 1971 (non-High Performance) valve covers looks like, so if someone could post an image, please, I would be very grateful. I believe that these would be the NON-LT1's and the NON-L82's. The parts interchange manual says that it is P/N 5272227, and it cross-references to other GM's cars. The same valve cover goes on either side.

Here is what a base engine looks like on a 70. 71 should be the same.

I looked some other ones in eBay, and there were not good shots of the covers. Thank you very much! Now I know what they look like. I kept finding the ones with the "Chevrolet" script, but I thought that those are the wrong ones. Thank you again!

My 71 motor is wrapped up on a stand but the valve covers in the pics on the link above look the same as mine on the base motor.

I wanted to make sure which ones are the correct ones. I am watching a set in eBay that seem to be the correct ones. We'll see. Thanks!

That's what the valve cover looks like, but the 71 uses a black rubber push-in oil cap instead of the traditional painted metal twist in cap like the 70. The hole for the push-in cap is round like the PVC hole and breather hole. So the right side cover has 1 hole and the left side cover has 2.

PS: The valve covers don't have any clips for various wires that some of the later covers do.

Interesting. I had no idea the valve covers were painted orange on the base engines. I thought they were all unpainted similar to mine.

Thanks for the information. You guys are great! I was under the impression that the covers would say "Corvette" or "Chevrolet".

Yep I agree. Was thinking about this last night when I went to bed. The oil cap is rubber push in. Alan good catch.

I know a WHOLE lot about 71 base engine cars and almost NOTHING about any other cars.

If memory serves, valve covers on all the base engine cars are painted block color.

Only the high HP SB engines (like LT1, L82) got the cast aluminum valve covers. All others got stamped steel. All stamped small block covers (except '68) were painted along with the engine, '68s got chrome plated covers.

BB engines were all stamped steel, some were chrome plated, some were painted.

None of the stamped covers on a C3 had the embossed Corvette script, those are from C2 or C1 cars.

Very confusing to keep straight!

'68 base engine cars got plain jane painted stamped steel. Optional '68 350hp engine got chrome stamped steel covers. If memory serves, the optional 350hp engines for '69 and '70 also got chrome covers.
