That is a terrifying tale. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I had something similar just not as extensive. I had a shop that was corvette only, which I thought I could trust. I sent my 84 in for a new dash and some seal work. After two weeks of nothing but the dash being finished I got worried about any other work, pulled the vette and took it to a repair shop that worked on a Superbeetle that I use to have. That shop had everything completed and the car on the road in three days. I am glad to say that the vette only shop is now out of business. :)

Still working to correct problems and still finding more.

I am eager to get the lousy coolant out, but the car is immobile. It is extremely slow to warm up, and the coolant looks like water, only. I also doubt that they reinstalled my thermostat.

Avoid Sevens Only!
